ZetaChain’s mission is to serve as a platform for universal access, simplicity, and utility across any blockchain. In April, ZetaChain maintained its status as a top five blockchain by total weekly active users on its Universal EVM [Source: DappRadar, May 1st]. This solid foundation set into motion a new Ecosystem Fund Growth Program to power our chain abstraction vision. Without further ado, this is the ZetaChain April Monthly Recap!

Want to here it live? Come catch on ZetaRadio today at 2PM UTC to learn about the latest developments!

100M TXs on ZetaChain’s Universal EVM

Only three months after the exciting ZetaChain Mainnet Beta release, we are proud to report the ZetaChain ecosystem achieved a great milestone of more than 100M transactions on ZetaChain’s Universal EVM [Source: ZetaScan Explorer].

With a Universal EVM, chains, assets, and data are abstracted, orchestrated, and converged for a more ideal crypto user experience. It makes possible Universal Apps that are accessible from any chain — even the Bitcoin network. Chain abstraction is the backbone to our vision for a fully interoperable, secure, and efficient blockchain ecosystem.

The 100M transaction activity comes from our robust ecosystem of over 250 developers and partners working across DeFi platforms, SocialFi, gaming, oracles, leading wallets, and more — with more than 5,300 dApp contracts deployed so far.

5% of total ZETA supply committed to achieving a chain abstraction future

With such immense traffic on ZetaChain, we were thrilled to unveil a new, comprehensive ecosystem program to elevate and accelerate growth of impactful Universal Apps and protocols built on ZetaChain blockchain.

The Ecosystem Fund Growth Program commits 5% of total ZETA supply to support the most promising and impactful projects building on ZetaChain blockchain, with a dedicated 1% (21 million ZETA) allocated for Bitcoin-focused projects. Visit the ZETA token distribution pages in ZetaDocs to learn more about the omnichain coin design and utility.

Next generation chain abstraction products will reimagine and make possible new crypto use cases we never thought possible. In our last technical write up, we reimagine the DEX, restaking, and BTC staking as natively cross-chain Omnichain Smart Contracts on ZetaChain. Check out the full post here.

Ecosystem Expansion

April included partnership expansion across the ecosystem stack including new social, gaming, and DeFi apps, dev tooling and infrastructure, data analytics, security services, and wallet integrations!

Coinbase Wallet adds ZetaChain as a default network

A particularly meaningful milestone was Coinbase Wallet’s native support for ZetaChain network. The integration enables Coinbase Wallet users to experience omnichain interoperability across all chains in a simple, fast, and secure way. With this update, users can easily switch to ZetaChain network, and they don’t have to deal with the hassle of adding a custom network.

1.26 million users earning ZETA for Learning Rewards

On top of the wallet integration, we kicked off the launch of Learning Rewards quests in Coinbase Wallet. The campaign, first accessible to an initial user group with expansion over time, is designed to reward users in ZETA for learning about ZetaChain technology and its growing omnichain dApp ecosystem. We’re thrilled to report in less than one month over 1.26 million users earned ZETA!

You can learn more about the exciting Coinbase Wallet-ZetaChain development in the written press release and in the first portion of our last ZetaRadio session with Coinbase Wallet’s Product Lead:

ZetaChain Product

The pace of ZetaChain Product development in April accelerated as we onboard more talented technical contributors. In particular, both the omnichain explorer ZetaScan and ZetaChain entry point product ZetaHub released pretty substantial improvements to UI and UX. Let’s check it out.

The Omnichain Explorer facelift

The native omnichain explorer ZetaScan saw a full UI/UX facelift with additional features for real-time cross-chain transaction exploration. For example, you may notice the homepage dynamically updates with blocks and transactions as they occur, providing real-time data visibility without the need to refresh. Further, address pages now have fuller coverage of all relevant transactions — cross-chain transactions, EVM token transfers, staking/delegations, and Cosmos transfers.

ZetaScan Address page example

With the launch of universal domains early last month, we added support in ZetaScan for .zeta username filtering as well as enhanced search functions for native zeta/zetavaloper addresses and inbound transaction hashes from connected chains. If you want, you can even geek out with our new advanced Identicon options for a more personalized, fun experience!

The overall ZetaScan interface is much more consistent, promoting a more cohesive user experience. Note, our ecosystem efforts include creating more optionality and fault tolerance for important tools like Explorers. Other explorers in the ZetaChain ecosystem such as Blockscout continue to innovate and advance towards a shared omnichain future. You can check out what’s available in the Tools section of ZetaDocs.

Stepping closer towards omnichain abstraction

No matter who or where you are, we believe that anyone should be able to easily onboard, use, and appreciate the benefits of crypto across any chain. A key part of this vision involves abstracting away assets from their underlying chain.

ZetaHub advances towards this goal with its new Holdings page that shows asset balances across supported chains (Ethereum, Binance, Bitcoin). In this example, we see the user holds USDT on both Binance and ZetaChain. We can also view balances for other assets such as BTC.

As crypto evolves, many tokens can and should be fungible across chains. The ZetaHub contributors are excited to roll out more UI updates as it builds for omnichain tokens!

Entering a new phase of XP

A recap would not be complete without highlighting our big XP update to close out April. A snapshot of the XP program was taken, marking 90 days after the launch of ZetaChain Mainnet Beta! All eligible users within the snapshotted data are permanently cemented in the first phase of ZetaChain. Learn more about next steps and the vision for XP in our full statement.

ZetaChain Global Events

Our Asia roadshow schedule was jampacked with ETH Seoul, the Hong Kong Web3 Festival, ETH Tokyo (and a quick appearance at Paris Blockchain Week). ZetaChain was thrilled to be invited to deliver main stage keynote talks at these major conferences. Check out our session on Bringing BTC into Web3 by Lead DevX Core Contributor Denis Fadeev.

Floating into Token 2049 in Dubai

After the round of Asia stops, we made our way over to the Middle East for Token 2049 in Dubai! The floods didn’t stop us from executing on our exciting ZetaChain Main Events calendar!

One particularly fun event was getting a chance to sit down with the CEO at Pudgy Penguins and other thought leaders on a Future of Web3 panel at the iconic (and very fitting) Museum of the Future in Dubai. Check out the recording recap featuring Core Contributor Jonathan Covey here:

More events on and offline…

We’re always trying to join exciting conversations in the crypto industry, especially ones with other blockchain thought leaders. Listen back to some of the conversations we contributed to in April, and stay up to speed as new videos come out on ZetaChain’s YouTube:

ZetaChain Global activity rising…

Community-led events around the world are ramping up. In April, we saw a bunch of local events take place. Have a read of our first ZetaChain Global Series and stay tuned as we add more regions in 2024!
